Release Alpha v0.2: Computerplayer, UI improvements and tons of bugfixes

First of all: Happy New Year 2016 and thanks for your support and interest in this project during 2015! I also want to say: Many thanks to all the contributors who helped to bring this game a huge step forward!

Speaking of which: The new Alpha Release v0.2 is out with our brand new AI! Many thanks go to Stephan (@codingberlin) who developed this great feature.

To play with AI players, you can simply start a new single player game. All other players on the map will be AI players. One important thing to mention: We have four AI difficulties at the moment. As our main menu UI still lacks a lot of features you currently cannot really configure the AI difficulties (there is a way via a configuration file). Nevertheless, to give you guys a comfortable way to test all of these AIs, every player will have a different difficulty level. Therefore, player 2 will be very easy, player 3 easy, player 4 hard and player 5 will be very hard.

In multiplayer games, all player spots not taken by humans will be played by a very hard ai player.

Another important thing I have to add: At the moment, you as a player, can controll and see the AI players in singleplayer games. This is actually by intention as it allows you to see what the AI does, how it does it and what could be made better. If you see a mistake, you can actually try to help the AI in the battle against other AIs or yourself. Feel free to report issues and possible improvements, so we can enhance the AI further.

    Thank you so much for all your amazing work on this game! I’ve wanted to play this game again for years! So happy that you’re continuing to work on it after all these years. It’s a really good game so far, just needs a lot of features implemented. 🙂

    I can’t figure out how to save my game, is that a feature yet? And I noticed that when I build a guard tower, soldiers will refuse to go occupy them unless they are close by the tower when it is finished. Is this intentional? Can’t wait for a new version, and keep up the good work!

    If you added a PayPal “donate” button to your site, I would totally help out. 🙂

      thanks! We will continue adding new features 😉

      You can save with F2. I will add a wiki page with the available shortcuts shortly. Regarding the towers, this should be a bit better now. However, at the moment the search radius of a tower to get a soldier is quite limited. This will improve in the future with better algorithms used for this. At the moment it would influence performance too much.

    What a great project. Loved the original Settlers game on the Amiga back in the day and am always on the look out for a similar style game on Android. None of the games of the genre quite capture the Settlers experience, so really looking forward to this – hope it becomes a reality!

    Ich finde es großartig das ihr euch diese Mühe macht, dieses doch schon in die Jahre gekommene Spiel wieder zu beleben! Ich habe es früher sehr geliebt und liebe es immer noch!

    Das beste ist jedoch, dass man zu zweit mit 6 KI’s spielen kann, OHNE diesen nervigen Multiplayer-Bug (Out of sync) den es im Original und sogar im Nachfolger noch gab! <3

    Ich freue mich auf das nächste Update (Gibt es schon einen groben Termin? :P) und hoffe das ihr noch lange Spaß und Zeit haben werdet um hier dran weiter zu entwickeln. Ihr macht damit sehr viele Menschen sehr Glücklich! Danke !

      es freut uns natürlich sehr, dass das Spiel so gut ankommt 🙂
      Zu deiner Frage nach dem nächsten Release: Genau kann ich es dir nicht sagen, aber ich plane in den nächsten Wochen eine neue Version freizugeben. Die enthält dann auch unser neues Hauptmenü 😉

    Großartige Arbeit! Ich habe bereits alle eure releases angespielt und ihr kommt echt super vorwärts. Ich habe nur ein Problem: ich finde auf dem Android Smartphone keine Möglichkeit Geologen, Pioniere und Diebe zu rekrutieren. Gibt es diese Möglichkeit noch nicht oder stelle ich mich nur zu blöd an?

      Hi,

      im Moment ist das Android UI nicht vollständig. Deshalb kann man da keine Pioniere usw erstellen… Wir freuen uns natürlich über Pull Requests 😉

    Gute Arbeit!
    Die grundlegenden Mechanismen sind alle vorhanden, wenn ihr so weiter macht, wird man einmal ein vollwertiges S3 auf dem Smartphone spielen können.

    Moin Moin !
    Ganz fettes Lob an das ganze Team hinter dem Projekt. Ich bin ein grosser Siedler Fan, schon seit meiner Kindheit. Mein Lieblingsteil bleibt Siedler4, denkt ihr, dass es irgend wann mal möglich wäre euer S3 Remake in ein S4 Remake auszubauen ? Naja in der Zwischenzeit kann ich ja noch weng S3 spielen. 😛

    For being in alpha state this release has surprisingly few bugs. Absolutely wonderful job, Andreas. You made my childhood vivid again! Please provide a way I can send a gift (paypal, maybe?).

    Settlers 3 is arguably my favourite game of all time and I’ve been keenly watching this project for a while now. Finally with Alpha 0.2, I thought it was time to give it a try on my Android device.

    Wow. Just wow!

    Can’t wait for the ability to create professions – trial and error mining is quite fun, but it puts me at a bit of a disadvantage!

    Very exciting and I’m looking forward to future releases!

    First of all, got to say a fantastic job, i wish the AI in actual game was like this. I have been playing this game for a long time and cant wait to play once everything is done.

    Not sure if its a bug but gold is not moved to storage area, storage building shows all items as red.

    I think i found a bug. I cant produce tools. There are only the tools which i got at the beginning of the game.

    hi,

    first of all, thank you for this game!!!

    I cannot run it, it asks for Gfx and Snd folders and I don’t know what to put in? Shoul I have downloaded somewthings else other then apk file?

      Hi,

      in order to run the game, you need the graphics (gfx) and sound (snd) files of the original game. You need to copy those folders from the original game onto your phone in a directory. Then when starting the game, you can select this directory and it should work. The detailed description can be found here: https://github.com/jsettlers/settlers-remake#android

      Hi Manuel,

      well, we don’t work on the music yet… at the moment we focus on gameplay and the game features so you guys have a better game to play and test. That’s why the music is not that important to me, at the moment. However, I’m open for Pull Requests implementing that 😉

    OMG!!!
    Thank you that much! I didn’t expect a new release that early! But what drives me even more insane (the good version) is about the content of the update: the implemented feature of AI players!
    I will check the new version as soon as possible and hope you keep going strong, especially the mentioned UI was quite sparsely in the last version.
